As a reservist, Verdiyev performed his military service as a driver during the 44-day Patriotic War that started on September 27, 2020.

He fought heroically in the battles for the liberation of the Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Lachin districts. Verdiyev became a martyr while fighting for the liberation of the Lachin district.

Under the relevant orders of President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, Royal Verdiyev was posthumously awarded the medals “For Military Services”, “For the Liberation of Jabrayil”, “For the Liberation of Gubadli” and “For the Liberation of Lachin”.
