The National Hero of Azerbaijan is the highest national title in the country. Established by the Law 331-XII dated 25 March 1992, the title is awarded for exceptional services and bravery in the independence and progress of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Zafar or Victory Order of the Republic of Azerbaijan has been established by the Law 204-VIQD, dated 26 November 2020. This order is awarded to commanders of military units or more senior ranks for high professionalism in the management of combat operations that culminated in the liberation of important or strategic territories, settlements, districts or cities from enemy occupation, while ensuring the territorial integrity and security of the Republic of Azerbaijan, or combat operations to restore the state borders of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as other persons for special services in ensuring territorial integrity.

The Karabakh Order of the Republic of Azerbaijan has been established by the Law dated 26 November 2020. This order is awarded to military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan for courage shown in the destruction of manpower and equipment of the enemy, as well as in the performance of official duties in conditions of a real threat to life during the liberation of the occupied territories and the restoration of the state borders of Azerbaijan as well as for special services in restoration of the territorial integrity.

The Azerbaijani Flag Order of the republic of Azerbaijan has been established by the Law 756 dated 6 December 1993. It is given for the following services: distinguished contributions to the national independence movement and social and political development in the Republic of Azerbaijan; distinguished contributions to the military science and development of military equipment; distinguished service in defending independence and the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan; for distinguished services in keeping peace and order in the country and distinguished military service; and for distinguished service in protecting state borders of the country.

The Bravery (Rashadat) Order of the Republic of Azerbaijan has been established by the Law 884-VQD, dated 17 November 2017. There are three classes, 1st class Rashadat Order being the highest. The three classes of the order are confessed sequentially. The order is given to the military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the following services: special services in ensuring the independence, territorial integrity and security of the Republic of Azerbaijan; professional management of military units and formations in combat operations that culminated in the liberation of important or strategic territories, settlements, districts or cities from enemy occupation; courage shown in preventing enemy attack, liberating occupied territories, destroying the manpower and equipment of the enemy while protecting the motherland; for brave and determined acts in the performance of official duties and military service in conditions of a real threat to life; special services in saving lives in emergencies or extreme conditions; and distinguished services in ensuring the protection of the state border.

For service to the Fatherland Order has been established by the Law, dated 7 November 2003. There are three classes, 1st class being the highest. The three classes of the order are confessed sequentially. For service to the Fatherland Order of the Republic of Azerbaijan is given for the following services: loyalty to the Republic of Azerbaijan, performance of administrative duties with dignity and honesty; productive activity, excellence, and outstanding public services; and special contributions to construction of the national state.

Established by the Law dated 26 November 2020, the “Hero of Patriotic War” is the highest honor given in the Republic of Azerbaijan. A special distinctive sign of the title is the “Hero of Patriotic War” Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The title of “Hero of Patriotic War” is awarded for the highly professional commandership of the combat tasks set for a complete defeat of enemy forces and combat operations for the restoration of the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan despite the deployment of enemy forces in favorable areas and their stubborn resistance during the liberation of the occupied territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as for the demonstration of personal heroism in combat operations.

Established by Law No. 608-IQ dated 29 December 1998, the “For the Fatherland” Medal is awarded for merits in ensuring the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the national security of the state, as well as for protecting the state structure.

Established by Law No. 607-IQ dated 29 December 1998, the “For Bravery” Medal is awarded for the demonstration of bravery during the war, the successful commandership of combat operations and the demonstration of personal bravery, the demonstration of bravery while performing military duty at the risk of his life, as well as the demonstration of courage while performing a special task.

Established by the Law dated 26 November 2020, the “Brave Warrior” Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan is awarded to the military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan for successfully performing combat tasks of liberating strategic or specially important territories independently or on the ranks of other types of troops during the liberation of the occupied territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as for distinguishing themselves in preserving the combat capability of our troops by destroying the enemy’s main ground and air manpower and equipment.

Established by the Law dated 26 November 2020, the “For Distinction in Battle” Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan is awarded to the military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan for distinguishing themselves and showing bravery and heroism while performing combat duties and during life-threatening special operations, for demonstrating skillful, proactive and decisive actions that contribute to the successful completion of combat missions, as well as for professionally commanding the subordinate unit during the successful execution of combat tasks.

Established by the Law dated 26 November 2020, the “For the Liberation of Sugovushan” Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan is awarded to the military personnel of the Republic of Azerbaijan for participating in the combat operations for the liberation of the village of Sugovushan.

Established by the Law dated 26 November 2020, the “For the Liberation of Jabrayil” Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan is awarded to the military personnel of the Republic of Azerbaijan for participating in the combat operations for the liberation of the district of Jabrayil.

Established by the Law dated 26 November 2020, the “For the Liberation of Khojavand” Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan is awarded to the military personnel of the Republic of Azerbaijan for participating in the combat operations for the liberation of the district of Khojavand.

Established by the Law dated 26 November 2020, the “For the Liberation of Fuzuli” Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan is awarded to the military personnel of the Republic of Azerbaijan for participating in the combat operations for the liberation of the district of Fuzuli.

Established by the Law dated 26 November 2020, the “For the Liberation of Zangilan” Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan is awarded to the military personnel of the Republic of Azerbaijan for participating in the combat operations for the liberation of the district of Zangilan.

Established by the Law dated 26 November 2020, the “For the Liberation of Gubadli” medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan is awarded to the military personnel of the Republic of Azerbaijan for participating in the combat operations for the liberation of the district of Gubadli.

Established by the Law dated 26 November 2020, the “For the Liberation of Shusha” Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan is awarded to the military personnel of the Republic of Azerbaijan for participating in the combat operations for the liberation of the city of Shusha.

Established by the Law dated 26 November 2020, the “For the Liberation of Lachin” Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan is awarded to the military personnel of the Republic of Azerbaijan for participating in the combat operations for the liberation of the district of Lachin.

Established by the Law dated 26 November 2020, the “For the Liberation of Aghdam” Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan is awarded to the military personnel of the Republic of Azerbaijan for participating in the combat operations for the liberation of the district of Aghdam.

Established by the Law dated 26 November 2020, the “For the Liberation of Kalbajar” Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan is awarded to the military personnel of the Republic of Azerbaijan for participating in the combat operations for the liberation of the district of Kalbajar.

Established by the Law dated 26 November 2020, the “Participant of the Patriotic War” Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan is awarded to the military personnel and civilian employees of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan for participating in the Patriotic War for the liberation of the liberated territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan and contributing to the successful completion of military operations, as well as to employees and civilian servants of the relevant executive authority (body) for demonstrating heroism on the frontline.

Established by Law No. 759, dated 6 December 1993, the “For Military Services” Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan is awarded for merits in the performance of service duties and tasks assigned to military units, as well as in the protection of the state border.

Established by the Law dated 14 October 2016, the “For Courage” Medal is awarded to military personnel and other persons for showing courage and heroism while performing their military duty in the defense of the Motherland.

The “90th Anniversary (1918-2008) of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan” commemorative medal has been established by Law No. 607-IQ, dated 16 May 2008. This medal is awarded to officers, warrant officers and enlistees, who completed active military service in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan and succeeded in combat training until 26 June 2008, reservists or retired officers, as well as to officers who took an active part in the establishment and strengthening of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The “95th Anniversary (1918-2013) of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan” commemorative medal has been established by Law No. 444- IVQD, dated 16 October 2012. This medal is awarded to officers, warrant officers and enlistees, who completed active military service in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan and succeeded in combat training until 26 June 2013, reservists or retired officers, as well as to officers who took an active part in the establishment and strengthening of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Established by Law No. 330- IIQ, dated 17 May 2002, the “For Perfect Military Service” Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan is awarded to military personnel for perfectly carrying out their military service and completing 10, 15, and 20 years of active military service in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan by June 26 every year. There are three degrees of the medal – “For Perfect Military Service” medal of the first class (for 20 years of military service), “For Perfect Military Service” medal of the second class (for 15 years of military service), “For Perfect Military Service” medal of the third class (for 10 years of military service).

The “100th Anniversary (1918-2018) of the Azerbaijani Army” commemorative medal has been established by the Law dated 30 June 2017. This medal is awarded to officers, warrant officers and enlistees, who completed active military service in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan and succeeded in combat training until 26 June 2018, reservists or retired officers, as well as to officers who took an active part in the establishment and strengthening of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The “Veteran of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan” Medal – the medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The “For Distinction in Military Service” Medal – the medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Established on 6 February 1998, the “Gold Star” Medal is a special award that honors a National Hero of Azerbaijan.

The “10th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan” commemorative medal was established by Law No. 331- IIQ, dated 17 May 2022 of the Republic of Azerbaijan under the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The “95th Anniversary (1919-2014) of the Azerbaijan Border Guard” commemorative medal is the state award of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Established by Decree No. 432, dated 25 December 2018 of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the “100th Anniversary (1919-2019) of the Azerbaijan Border Guard” commemorative medal is the state award of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
